Auction for WWII Enigma Machine ◊
A German Enigma encryption machine has been put up for sale on the auction site eBay. Experts report the three-rotor machine appears to be authentic, but serial numbers have been removed. Bids have already exceeded $30,000. External Link: No longer available.

Enigma M4 Message Breaking Project ◊
The M4 Project is attempting to use distributed computing to decrypt three German Enigma messages intercepted in the North Atlantic in 1942. It is believed that the Allies never decoded the messages. The first messages from U-264 was broken in February 2006 and the second message from U-623 in March 2006. Both messages are routine U-boat communications. External Link: M4 Project.

Bill Mauldin's Willie and Joe ◊
William "Bill" Mauldin (1921-2003) is undoubtably the most famous cartoonist of World War II. Mauldin served in the U.S. 45th Infantry Division where he began drawing the cartoon GIs Willie and Joe for the 45th Division News. Later, Mauldin transferred to the staff of the Stars & Stripes soldier's newspaper, where he continued his Willie and Joe series. Mauldin died in 2003, but his work lives on in print and online. Quartermaster Museum at Fort Lee ◊
The U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum at Fort Lee, Virginia preserves the history and heritage of the Quartermaster Corps, the military's logistic branch. The museum website hosts an extensive collection of online material on the Quartermaster Corps with a number of WWII articles and photos. Buffalo Soldiers Museum ◊
The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and Heritage Center seeks to preserve and promote the history and traditions of the Buffalo Soldiers. The museum collects artifacts, memorabilia, and personal stories of the servicemen called Buffalo Soldiers. The website contains military history and an extensive photo gallery. Mark Bando, author of several books on the 101st Airborne, is webmaster of Trigger Time, the definitive website on the 101st in World War II. This website about the 130th General Hospital is one of my favorite resources for hospital units. The 130th General Hospital served in England, France, Belgium, and Germany treating casualties from the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.
