Maj. Gen. Lloyd E. Jones
July 1943 - November 1944. Gen. Jones had previously commanded a task force in the Aleutians.
Maj. Gen. George P. Hays (1892-1978)
November 1944 - November 1945. Gen. Hays earned the Medal of Honor in WWI while serving with the 3rd Infantry Division. He had previously served as artillery commander for the 2nd Infantry Division. Gen. Hays later served as commander of the 2nd Infantry Division. He died in 1978 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
