This week shows several photographs of equipment belonging to the U.S. 85th Engineer Heavy Ponton Battalion from the website's private collection. The photos highlight some of the interesting sets of markings displayed by the engineer unit's vehicles and equipment.

The first two photos are a fully-marked truck from Company B, showing a variety of bumper, door, hood, and windshield markings.

The third photo shows a water tank adorned with a mermaid and the nickname "Water Lily," similar to the style of aircraft nose art.

The final two photos show a trailer labelled "The Forty 'n Eight."

(For another example of a truck with distinctive markings, see 995th Field Artillery Battalion Photo Album.)
