Panther Variants provides an excellent, affordable introduction to Panther tank variants. The primary focus of the book is not the Panther Panzerkampfwagen, but the Panther variants such as the Bergepanther and Jagdpanther. However, the Panther Ausf. D, A, and G are covered very briefly. The book covers the technical design and features of each vehicle, but provides only limited information on combat use.

Vehicles covered include Panther, Panther II, Bergepanther, Jagdpanther, Panzerbefehlswagen Panther, Panther Ausf. F, Panzerbeobachtungswagen Panther, and other mockups and designs. The Panther Ostwallturm constructed of Panther turrets emplaced in fortified positions is also covered in detail.

The book includes 28 photos, 11 scale drawings and 7 color plates. The color plates are: (i) Panther Ausf. A Befehlswagen and Panther Ausf. G with FG 1250; (ii) Bergepanther and Panther Ostwallturm; (iii) Jagdpanther; (iv) Panther Ausf. G with FG 1250 cutaway; (v) Panzerbeobachtungswagen Panther; (vi) Flakpanzer auf Panther-Fahrgestell mockup; and (vii) Panther Ausf. F design proposal. From the subject matter, many of the scale drawings are of mockups or design proposals. The photos are chosen for clarity, not rarity, and will be familiar to many readers.
