"American Gangster" Stings "Bee Movie" at Box Office

American Gangster took the top spot in the weekend North American box office with estimated ticket sales of $46 million. The film had received favorable reviews.

Jerry Seinfeld's heavily promoted animated comedy Bee Movie from Dreamworks was easily beaten, selling $39 million in tickets. Bee Movie had been heavily marketed by Seinfeld and with a wide range of tie-ins to children's products.

Saw IV from Lionsgate finished the top three with $11 million in ticket sales. The remainder of the Top 10 box office movies were: Dan in Real Life (Buena Vista), 30 Days of Night (Sony), The Game Plan (Buena Vista), Martian Child (New Line), Michael Clayton (Warner Bros.), Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? (Lionsgate), Gone Baby Gone (Miramax), Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (Buena Vista), and The Comebacks (Fox).
